What is Global Changes in Xactimate?
Are you manually making the same changes again and again across your estimate?
The Global Changes feature in Xactimate allows you to modify a line item once and apply that change across your entire estimate. This is especially helpful for when you need to update multiple groups or line items.
Here are a few good use cases for Global Changes:
-
Incorrect Trades. A counterparty sends you an estimate with the wrong trade – e.g.
PNT,MASKSFPvsDMO,MASKSFP.Use Global Changes to correct the trade once and apply that correction everywhere that line item appears.
-
Carrier-Specific Requirements. An insurance carrier requires a specific note or calculation on recurring line items (e.g., overhead notes for all cabinetry).
Global Changes ensures the adjustment is applied throughout the estimate.
-
Updated Line Item Activities. A homeowner has already removed damaged items from their home, so "Remove & Replace" needs to be changed to "Replace" across the estimate.
Here's how to use Global Changes in Xactimate:
-
Select the Groups. In the Grouping pane (left side), select the relevant groups (note: hold down the Shift key to multi-select).
This populates the Quick Entry pane with all corresponding line items.
-
Edit a Repeating Line Item. In Quick Entry, look for line items marked with calculation
<Multi>— this means that the line item appears in multiple groups.Update the line item to apply changes across all groups.
-
Edit Multiple Line Items at Once. Highlight several line items in Quick Entry, right-click, and select Global Changes.
Use the "Make Changes To" dropdown to edit fields like Coverage, Notes, Depreciation and more.
